Sunday, 9/11

Today’s Daily Word is “God is my strength and courage.

Nancy began today’s service by playing “Courage of the Wind” [Lanz]. We then sang “Oh, Fill Me With Thy Presence” [Wilson/Frangkiser] and followed with “Happy Birthday” [Trad.] for Barb. Nancy then sang “Thanks to God” [Storm/Hultman].

Pat Meeter Pat Meeter began today’s lesson by by explaining that, while today is the tenth anniversary of “9/11″ she knew that Karen Kelly has prepared a 9/11 talk, so today’s lesson was on the always apropos topic of prayer.

She explained that prayer is based on the fundamental spiritual laws of the universe, and that tools like the Master Mind prayer group that she, Karen and Cindy have been using for 35 years, which builds on Jesus’ teaching (in Matthew xviii. 19) “If two of you shall agree on earth as touching anything that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father who is in heaven.” The critical thing to know about prayer tools is that they are only effective when they are put into practice.

Many people have written powerfully about prayer, but only after they have personally applied prayer principles in their lives and reaped the results. Myrtle Fillmore and H. Emily Cady are two Unity examples of teachers whose memorable prayer ministry is based on their personal attainment.

She closed with three steps to effective prayer:

  1. Know what you want;
  2. Believe;
  3. Wait on the Lord.
